Announcing the development on his Telegram channel, Saidov said the agreement would create new opportunities for Uzbekistan to expand its international space cooperation.
“This document opens up new opportunities for Uzbekistan to expand cooperation with NASA and the space agencies of other participating countries, train national specialists and facilitate the transfer of space technologies,” Saidov said.
Uzbekistan became the 77th country to sign the Artemis Accords, joining an international framework that promotes responsible space exploration, transparency, peaceful cooperation and the exchange of scientific information.
The accords establish principles for civil space activities, including the peaceful use of space, emergency assistance, the registration of space objects, the release of scientific data and the preservation of historic sites on celestial bodies.
The agreement also aims to strengthen international cooperation as countries and space agencies pursue missions to the Moon and prepare for future exploration of Mars and other celestial destinations.
Uzbekistan’s accession is expected to provide opportunities for collaboration with NASA and other participating space agencies, while supporting the development of national expertise, scientific research and space-related technologies.
The signing took place during Rubio’s visit to Samarkand for diplomatic engagements aimed at deepening US-Uzbekistan relations and expanding cooperation across strategic sectors.
