One killed as massive fire engulfs shops in Noida near Indian Capital

Noida, India — At least one person was killed on Saturday after a massive fire broke out at several shops near a temple in Sector 126 of Noida, on the outskirts of India’s capital, New Delhi, police said.

The blaze reportedly spread across around five shops, triggering panic in the surrounding area. Two cylinder explosions were reported during the incident, raising concerns about the presence of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at the site.

Around 10 fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control, while police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene to assist with rescue operations and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas.

Television footage showed thick columns of black smoke rising above the affected shops as police officers cleared nearby streets to facilitate firefighting and emergency response efforts.

Pradeep Kumar, a senior fire service official, confirmed that firefighters had discovered a large number of LPG cylinders inside the affected premises.

“We have found a large number of LPG cylinders inside. We are currently addressing this issue and conducting search and rescue operations to check whether anyone is trapped,” Kumar said.

Firefighters continued searching the damaged premises to determine whether anyone else was trapped inside. Authorities also worked to secure the area and address the risks posed by the cylinders and reported explosions.

The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Sector 126 police station in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The cause of the fire remained unknown, and authorities had yet to establish the full extent of the damage or confirm whether there were additional casualties.
