Lucknow, India — A massive blast rocked the Behta Bazar area of Lucknow on Sunday, killing two people and injuring three others in what authorities confirmed was an illegal firecracker factory operating inside a residential house.
The explosion occurred in the home of Alam, who along with his wife Munni died in the accident. Their son Irshad, and neighbors Nadeem and Hoor Jaha, sustained injuries and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors say all three are now stable.
The blast was so powerful that it brought down a portion of the roof and caused structural damage to several nearby houses. Shocked residents described the sound as “deafening,” with tremors felt in adjoining lanes.
District Magistrate Vishak G said preliminary investigations suggest the firecracker unit was being run illegally. “The role of local police will also be examined, and strict action will follow,” he said.
Specialized teams including the SDRF, NDRF, bomb squad, forensic experts, and fire services were deployed immediately to carry out rescue operations and assess the damage.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and a formal investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.
