Israeli strike on Beirut suburb kills one, injures 21

Cairo, Egypt – An Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday killed one person and injured 21 others, Lebanese health authorities said, marking Israel’s first strike on the Dahye area in months.

The Health Ministry said in a brief statement that the airstrike resulted in “one person dead and twenty-one injured,” based on initial figures, without identifying the victim.

JUST NOW BREAKING : The Israeli military has launched an attack on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing at least five people and wounding 28 others, Lebanon’s health ministry says, calling it a “final toll”.

According to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Army targeted the head of Hezbollah’s General Staff, who allegedly oversaw “the strengthening and supply of weapons” to the group, though it did not confirm whether he was killed.

Hezbollah has yet to comment.

The strike hit an apartment building in the Haret Hreik district of Dahye, causing “significant damage to cars and buildings,” the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The agency said two projectiles struck the property, located on a main avenue, and that ambulances were transporting the wounded.

The last Israeli bombing in Dahye took place on June 5, when the army targeted alleged Hezbollah drone manufacturing sites.

Israel continues to carry out frequent strikes against what it describes as Hezbollah operatives attempting to rearm in violation of truce terms.

The latest bombing comes as Israeli attacks on Lebanon have become increasingly frequent, with the fragile truce approaching its first anniversary.

Earlier on Sunday, one person was killed when a projectile hit a vehicle in Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon, according to NNA.

Israel has not commented on that incident.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that Lebanon is willing to negotiate “any” agreement with Israel that could help end the ongoing attacks.
