Elon Musk enters Twitter HQ w/ sink in hand: ‘Let that sink in!’

Diplomat Times (WASHINGTON) –Tesla CEO Elon Musk entered Twitter’s headquarters Wednesday with a sink in hand as his deal to purchase the microblogging website nears completion.

“Let that sink in!” Musk tweeted in a post in which he shared the video of his entrance on his personal account. Musk can be heard making remarks in the video but the audio is of very poor quality.

Musk’s entry into Twitter’s headquarters comes as his $44 billion rapidly nears completion. On Monday, he reportedly told bankers who are partially funding the deal that he would have it completed by Friday.

The banks, seven in total, have completed financing preparations on some $13 billion they will set up for the deal, and are signing the necessary documentation to send Musk the cash, Bloomberg News reported. The cash is slated to be held in escrow on Thursday ahead of the agreement’s completion, according to Bloomberg, which cited anonymous sources familiar with the matter.

Morgan Stanley has taken on the bulk of the debt with some 27%, followed by Bank of America, Barclays and MUFG, which are each assuming about 21%. Three other banks have accounted for the remainder

Twitter shares have continued to climb in the aftermath of the media report, and are now sitting at roughly $53.34 per share.

Musk made his original offer to buy Twitter in April but walked it back in July, alleging Twitter violated the original agreement by misrepresenting the number of spam and fake accounts on its platform.

Twitter, in turn, sued Musk to complete the acquisition, accusing the billionaire of using bots as a ploy to walk away from the takeover. Twitter shareholders voted earlier this month in favor of Musk’s original agreement.

Legal proceedings have been ongoing in the US state of Delaware where Chancery Court Judge Kathaleen McCormick has given the parties until 5 p.m. on Friday to close the deal or face a November trial to decide on the outcome.

Chinese president says ‘world today is not peaceful’

Diplomat Times (ANKARA) –

Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country is willing to work with the US for bringing peace and stability to the world.

In a congratulatory message to the annual gala dinner of the National Committee on US-China Relations, Xi added China and the US should respect each other, coexist peacefully, achieve win-win cooperation, and find the right way for both countries to get along in the new era, which will not only benefit both countries, but also the world, state-run Global Times reported.

“The world today is not peaceful. As major powers, China and the US strengthening communication and cooperation will help increase the stability and certainty of the world and help promote world peace and development,” the daily quoted Xi as saying.

This is his first statement regarding relations with the US after being elected for the third historic term as president this weekend.

Xi hoped that China’s National Committee on US-China Relations will continue to play its active role, helping the bilateral relations return to the track of healthy and stable development.

Tension between Beijing and Washington escalated following China launched unprecedented military operations around Taiwan in August when US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paid an unannounced trip to the self-ruled island nation.

Beijing sees it as a violation of its sovereignty and held massive military activities, including firing missiles, some over the island nation, home to over 24 million people. Besides military operations, China also suspended high-level military dialogue with Pentagon and cooperation on climate change.

Taiwan has maintained its independence since 1949 while Beijing has pursued a policy of reunifying the island with the mainland, including by force if necessary.

Want to Get Verified on Instagram/Facebook ? Don’t Fall For These 3 Verification Scams

Are you getting suspicious messages offering a blue check on Instagram? This article will protect you from the most common verification scams.

Whether you’re a thought leader, influencer or entrepreneur, you probably have “get verified on Instagram” on your to-do list. And you should. The coveted blue check mark is valuable for any business leader, but especially for those whose work relies on having a positive public persona.

Jon Clay, vice president of threat intelligence at Trend Micro, said the IT security company has seen verification scams in roughly 70 countries. “It’s just a lure that gives the criminals an opportunity to target these victims,” Clay said.

A social media user, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation, told CNET that Ceylan presented a convincing pitch when he said he could get the person’s Instagram account verified. At his request, the person provided him with a photo while holding an ID (though its number was obscured). After that, Ceylan appeared to use the photo to get the person’s social media accounts taken down for impersonation.

Not only does the check mark put you in an elite group — less than 5% of Instagram accounts are granted a verified status — but it also protects you from imposters hijacking your online presence. Which of the dozens of Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram accounts is the real one? The one with the blue check mark.
So, how do you get verified on Instagram? There are those who would tell you that the process is easy and requires only a little bit of time, a few forms and some money. Don’t believe them. Those people are scammers who are trying to get access to your private information or take your money.

As Instagram explains on its website, verification is something that is offered to those who “represent a well-known, highly searched-for person, brand or entity.” If that does not describe you or your brand, you should be suspicious of anyone who offers you an easy path to getting a blue check mark.

Here are three common Instagram verification scams you should be careful to avoid.

Dipanjan Das, a security researcher at UC Santa Barbara who conducted an exhaustive study on NFT frauds, says a verification badge adds a stamp of authenticity, and a scammer with a verified Twitter profile can attract much stronger attention and have a higher impact. And by targeting the multi-billion-dollar NFT ecosystem, both hackers and buyers or scammers can recoup their costs in a few tweets before account owners initiate the recovery process.

  1. Don’t trust an invitation to apply
  2. Don’t trust a message saying that you have been pre-approved
  3. Don’t trust a promise to deliver verification for a fee

Pakistan High Court made his decision against Imran Khan

0

Diplomat Times(ISLAMABAD) –
Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah said on Monday that former prime minister Imran Khan’s disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was only to the extent of the seat he was notified on.

The IHC CJ’s remarks came while hearing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief’s petition against the ECP’s decision to disqualify him in the Toshakhana (gift depository) reference.

Two days earlier, the ex-premier had approached the IHC, requesting them to declare the ECP’s decision null and void.

During today’s hearing, the IHC asked about the Registrar’s Office objections to the petition. Imran’s lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar informed the court that there were objections regarding Imran’s biometrics and certification of the submitted documents.

Chief Justice Minallah then inquired why the petitioner was in a “rush” for the petition to be heard. To this, the lawyer stated that the PTI chief had to contest elections on a seat in Kurram on October 30, but was now facing problems due to the ECP’s disqualification.

When asked about the section under which the electoral watchdog disqualified Imran, Ali Zafar replied that action was taken under Article 63(1) of the Constitution.

Justice Minallah maintained that Imran was only disqualified to the extent of the seat he was notified on. He furthered that there was no need for hasten the process of hearing the plea, and that the case would be heard once the verdict’s certified copies were presented.

Barrister Zafar again contended that there was an election in Kurram on October 30, in which the party has to participate. CJ Minallah remarked that there was “no problem” with the PTI contesting this election.

The lawyer argued that the IHC should suspend the ECP’s decision.

He maintained that the ECP’s verdict was reserved, then announced and then the commission claimed that the decision “was not signed”.

“Nothing is going to happen in three days,” CJ Minallah said, advising the petitioner to be patient. The court stated that in the past, fake court orders of the IHC were issued and action was taken against them.

Barrister Zafar said that in the prohibited funding case against the PTI, the ECP had changed its decision and that risk still lingered with the current disqualification case.

Justice Minallah highlighted that it “takes some time to issue a decision”, adding that at time it takes the IHC some time to issue notices too.

He furthered that the petitioner had not received a certified copy of the verdict and did not have reason to be in a rush.

“We are in a rush because the stigma is politically damaging,” Imran’s lawyer reiterated.

The reality star and makeup mogul took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, Oct. 22 to reveal she was taking sister Kylie Jenner’s private jet to Las Vegas to ring in her big day when wind conditions forced her to turn around and land back in Los Angeles. Why China is growing it’s media influence in Indonesia

Why China is growing it’s media influence in Indonesia

Jakarta, INDONESIA (DT) – China has expanded its media influence globally to support its growing clout in the world.

Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, is also a target of Beijing media propaganda due to the former’s strategic location for China’s Belt and Road Initiatives.

Around the world, the Chinese government is dispersing its version of information through content-sharing deals under media partnership, censorship and training of foreign journalists.

China adopts the above strategies to amplify narratives in line with the Chinese Communist Party’s interests, especially in countries where Beijing has high stakes.

Indonesia is no exception and here, China is using at least three media strategies.

Inviting journalists to China and cooperating with Indonesian media

Additionally, in the past few years, China has actively invited foreign journalists to the country to supply them with its own version of information.

In 2019, the Indonesian Journalists Association attended the Belt Road Initiative Journalists Forum conference organized by CCP-affiliated All China Journalist Association (ACJA).

Supported by the China Communications University and China International Radio, the cooperation covers journalist exchange, journalist training, joint reporting and academic activities.

Upon returning, one journalist from Lombok wrote a piece on local newspaper, praising China and its press freedom.

In the same year, following increased protests on China’s repression of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, Indonesian journalists, along with leaders of the country’s Muslim organisations were invited to China on a choreographed tour to Xinjiang, in which they were taken to only limited parts of the Uyghur camps.

Besides inviting journalists to China, Chinese media entities have also established ties with their Indonesian counterparts to support its content-sharing strategies. This strategy enables Chinese state media contents to circulate widely, reaching Indonesian audiences through local media.

Liz Truss resigns as Britain’s Prime Minister after a 45 days tenure

0

Prime Minister Liz Truss has just resigned after being in office for just 45 days — the shortest tenure of any UK PM. The previous record holder, George Canning, died in office after serving 119 days back in 1827. So, yeah. Not great.

Some facts, She is lucky or unlucky :

  • Two days after Truss becomes PM, Queen Elizabeth II dies.
  • Less than one month into the job, Truss introduces radical fiscal policies, which promptly crash the pound, causing it to fall to a historic low.
  • Truss damages Britain’s economic standing on a global level and brings the country to the brink of a recession, and prompting the Bank of England and the IMF to intervene.
  • On Oct. 20, Truss resigns after 45 days in office, breaking a new record for the shortest tenure of a PM. The UK will soon be onto its third prime minister of 2022.
