Beijing, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Beijing on Tuesday, with both leaders pledging to deepen bilateral ties, expand cooperation in emerging technologies, and strengthen coordination on global and regional issues.
Welcoming Pellegrini on his state visit to China, Xi said Beijing is ready to work with Slovakia to build a strategic partnership based on mutual respect, trust, equality, mutual benefit, stability, and resilience. He emphasized that respect for each other’s development paths and a long-standing commitment to friendship have been the cornerstone of the strong relationship between the two countries.
Xi praised Slovakia for adhering to the one-China principle and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting each other’s core interests and major concerns. He called for greater cooperation in high-growth sectors such as clean energy, the digital economy, robotics, and artificial intelligence, describing them as key areas for future bilateral collaboration.
The Chinese president also urged both sides to strengthen exchanges in culture, sports, tourism, youth, and local-level cooperation while making travel between the two countries more convenient.
On international affairs, Xi said China and Slovakia should work together to uphold the United Nations-centered international system and the international order based on international law. He stressed the importance of promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive form of economic globalization that benefits all nations.
Addressing China-EU relations, Xi said China views the European Union as an important partner and hopes Slovakia will play a constructive role in fostering stable and healthy ties between Beijing and Brussels.
President Pellegrini reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment to its strategic partnership with China and expressed hope for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, robotics, and renewable energy. He also welcomed greater investment by Chinese companies in Slovakia.
As a member of the European Union, Pellegrini said Slovakia is prepared to promote dialogue and consultation between the EU and China to resolve differences and strengthen cooperation. He also emphasized Slovakia’s support for multilateralism, the principles of the UN Charter, and international law, while expressing interest in working closely with China on the global governance of artificial intelligence.
Before the formal talks, Xi hosted an official welcome ceremony for Pellegrini at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, followed by a state banquet in honor of the visiting Slovak president.
