New Delhi, India — The Government of India has appointed senior diplomat Dr K. Srikar Reddy as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Qatar, the Ministry of External Affairs announced.
A 2001-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Dr Reddy is currently serving as the Consul General of India in San Francisco, United States. He is expected to assume his new assignment in Doha shortly.

Before his posting in San Francisco, Dr Reddy served as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, where he played a key role in strengthening India’s commercial engagement with Africa and West Asia. He was India’s chief negotiator for the landmark India–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which came into force in May 2022, and the India–Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA), operational since April 2021.
Dr Reddy succeeds Vipul, a 1998-batch IFS officer, who served as India’s Ambassador to Qatar from August 2023 before being appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia earlier this year.
His appointment comes at a crucial time as India and Qatar continue to deepen their strategic and economic partnership. The two countries are working towards a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have also launched negotiations for a broader regional trade pact.
With his extensive experience in diplomacy and international trade negotiations, Dr Reddy’s appointment is expected to further strengthen India-Qatar relations and expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology and people-to-people ties.
