KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, has been honored with the prestigious Premio Excelencias 2024 award, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the global tourism sector throughout his illustrious career. The announcement was made by the Caribbean Network Developments (CND).

The Premio Excelencias award celebrates excellence in tourism and cultural development, acknowledging Minister Bartlett’s visionary leadership and dedication to advancing sustainable tourism practices both locally and internationally.

During his tenure, Minister Bartlett has introduced transformative initiatives, including the establishment of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre. His innovative strategies have significantly increased visitor arrivals to Jamaica while fostering sustainable economic opportunities for communities across the island.

“This recognition reflects our nation’s commitment to excellence in tourism,” said Minister Bartlett. “It is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our entire tourism sector and reinforces Jamaica’s position as a leading destination in the Caribbean region.”

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during FITUR in Madrid, Spain, bringing together prominent leaders from the international tourism industry to honor exceptional achievements. The Premio Excelencias 2024 joins Minister Bartlett’s extensive list of accolades, further elevating Jamaica’s prominence on the global tourism stage.

Jamaica’s tourism sector continues to achieve global acclaim under the leadership of Minister Bartlett and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), which was founded in 1955 and is headquartered in Kingston. JTB maintains a global presence with offices in Montego Bay, Miami, Toronto, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, Mumbai, Tokyo, and Paris. The island is renowned for its world-class accommodations, attractions, and service providers, consistently earning prestigious awards and recognition.

In 2025, Jamaica was ranked by TripAdvisor as the #13 Best Honeymoon Destination, #11 Best Culinary Destination, and #24 Best Cultural Destination worldwide. Additionally, Jamaica was named “World’s Leading Cruise Destination” and “World’s Leading Family Destination” for the fifth consecutive year by the World Travel Awards in 2024. The Jamaica Tourist Board also earned the title of “Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board” for the 17th consecutive year.

Jamaica has also garnered multiple Travvy Awards, including gold for “Best Travel Agent Academy Program,” and silver for “Best Culinary Destination – Caribbean” and “Best Tourism Board – Caribbean.” The island received bronze recognition for “Best Destination – Caribbean,” “Best Wedding Destination – Caribbean,” and “Best Honeymoon Destination – Caribbean.” Furthermore, Jamaica received a TravelAge West WAVE award for “International Tourism Board Providing the Best Travel Advisor Support” for a record-breaking 12th time.
