New Delhi, India — The High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda to India commemorated the 32nd anniversary of Kwibohora (Liberation Day) with a diplomatic reception at Andaz Delhi, Aerocity, bringing together senior officials from the Government of India, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Friends of Rwanda, and members of the Rwandan community.
The event celebrated Rwanda’s remarkable journey since its liberation while highlighting more than three decades of peacebuilding, national reconciliation, economic transformation, and sustainable development. It also reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, particularly its growing relationship with India.
The annual observance of Kwibohora marks the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and commemorates Rwanda’s liberation, symbolizing the nation’s resilience, unity, and determination to build a peaceful and prosperous future.
The reception was attended by diplomats, government officials, business leaders, development partners, and members of the Rwandan diaspora, reflecting the strong friendship and expanding cooperation between Rwanda and India across multiple sectors.
Delivering her keynote address, H.E. Jacqueline Mukangira, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to India, paid tribute to the brave men and women who fought for Rwanda’s liberation, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice to secure the country’s freedom.
She reflected on Rwanda’s extraordinary transformation over the past 32 years, emphasizing that the nation’s progress has been driven by the values of unity, resilience, good governance, inclusion, and innovation. She noted that Rwanda has emerged as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies and continues to pursue an ambitious vision for sustainable development, investment, and regional cooperation.
The High Commissioner also reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with India in areas including trade, investment, technology, education, healthcare, and capacity building.
Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, attended the celebration as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he congratulated the Government and people of Rwanda on the occasion of the 32nd Liberation Day and underscored the growing strength of India–Rwanda relations. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and praised Rwanda’s remarkable development, stability, and contributions to regional peace and prosperity.
The evening concluded with cultural performances and a reception celebrating Rwanda’s rich heritage, while reaffirming the enduring friendship between Rwanda and India and their shared vision for peace, development, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
