Washington, USA (DT) – Incoming US president Donald Trump on Thursday named Susie Wiles, one of his two campaign managers, as his future chief of staff, making her the first woman to take the role in American history.
Trump’s second term in the White House will begin on Jan. 20, 2025.

Wiles, 67, will therefore take one of the most important positions in the US administration, responsible for White House policy and day-to-day affairs, as well as coordination of cabinet members, and serving as confidante and adviser.
It is the first appointment that Trump has announced since he defeated Democratic candidate and incumbent vice president, Kamala Harris, in Tuesday’s election.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again.”
He said it was a “well-deserved honor” to have Wiles as the first female chief of staff in American history.
On Tuesday, when Trump gave his first victory speech, he publicly thanked Wiles for her work.
According to CNN, Wiles is credited with making this latest and third Republican campaign the most “sophisticated and disciplined” of them all.
A veteran of politics in Florida, she ran Trump’s campaign in the state in 2016 and helped Ron DeSantis win the state’s gubernatorial election in 2018.
Who is Susie Wiles
Susie Wiles is an American political strategist and veteran Republican operative, known for her work on high-profile political campaigns. She is best recognized for her role as a senior adviser and key strategist during Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, where she played a significant role in helping secure his victory in Florida, a crucial swing state. Wiles is also known for her involvement in various Republican campaigns in Florida, including gubernatorial races.
In 2024, she was appointed as Trump’s Chief of Staff, a role in which she will manage his administration’s operations and strategy. Wiles has been influential in Republican circles, particularly for her expertise in campaign management and political outreach.
Susie Wiles is the daughter of legendary sportscaster Pat Summerall, growing up in New Jersey as one of his three children. Her first foray into politics was as an assistant to the late Jack Kemp, who had been Summerall’s teammate during his time with the New York Giants.
Summerall, who struggled with alcoholism, credited Wiles for helping him make the decision to seek sobriety and enter the Betty Ford Clinic for treatment. In his memoir, he reflected on her impact, saying, “I hadn’t been there much for my kids, but Susan’s letter made it clear that I’d hurt them even in my absence.”
