Macron’s office issued the statement on Monday as the French leader held a first series of talks at the COP27 summit in Egypt. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Sell San Francisco Home for $31 Million

0

The deal is the most expensive in the city so far this year.

Diplomat Times (San Francisco) -Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have sold one of their San Francisco homes for $31 million in an off-market deal, a spokesperson for the family confirmed.

The deal marks the most expensive sale in San Francisco so far this year, according to Zilllow. Built in 1928, the 7,386-square-foot home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and is on the edge of the Mission District and Dolores Heights neighborhoods of the city. The sale closed on July 1, but records of the transaction have just become publicly available.

The Facebook-cum-Meta co-founder, 38, and his wife, 37, purchased the home in 2012 for just under $10 million through a California-based limited liability company, SFRP, according to records with PropertyShark. A grant deed between the seller and the buyer was signed on SFRP’s behalf by Na’eem Salaam, the vice president of operations of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Although a representative for the organization confirmed the deal, Mr. Zuckerberg and Ms. Chen were not available for comment.

The buyer was a limited liability company based in Delaware, PropertyShark records show. Mansion Global was unable to identify the buyer further, but Michael M. Gordon, a director at the law firm of Gordon, Fournaris and Mammarella in Wilmington, was listed as the contact for the LLC. He did not immediately return a request for comment.

When the couple bought the home 10 years ago, it was about 1,800 square feet smaller and its sale price likely set a record for the Mission District at a time when San Francisco was seeing the early signs of a tech takeover, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time.

Founded in 2015, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative aims “to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges—from eradicating disease and improving education, to addressing the needs of our local communities,” according to its website. Ms. Chan and Mr. Zuckerberg are the co-founders and serve as co-CEOs.

Last March, they purchased close to 600 acres of land on the Hawaiian island of Kauai for $53 million, Mansion Global reported. That brought their total holdings to more than 1,300 acres on the Hawaiian island.

In addition, the Silicon Valley home where Mr. Zuckerberg and other Facebook co-founders launched the social media platform hit the market in May for nearly $5.3 million. The price was dropped to just under $5 million a few weeks after it was listed, and taken off the market earlier this month. It’s currently being offered as a rental for $11,000 a month.

Black Adam Rules The Box Office Again As Smile Prepares To Hit An Excellent Milestone

In Its Last Weekend At #1 Domestically, Black Adam’s Ticket Sales Exceed $300 Million Worldwide

Black Adam Rules The Box Office Again As Smile Prepares To Hit An Excellent Milestone

Diplomat Times (Hollywood) – As the calendar flipped over to November this past week, Hollywood didn’t put up much of an effort to provide theaters with new wide releases – something that we’ve seen happen multiples times in 2022. With Halloween in the rear view mirror and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set to take over multiplexes the world over in just a few days, the box office crown was left open to be taken for a third time by the star power of Dwayne Johnson in Jaume Collet-Serra’s Black Adam.

Check out the Top 10 for this past weekend at the box office below, and join me after for analysis! Figure in (USD $)

TITLE                                 WEEKEND GROSS DOMESTIC GROSS LW        THTRS
1. Black Adam                     $18,520,000 $137,365,701 1 3                     985
2. One Piece Film: Red*        $9,475,251 $9,475,251 2                                  367
3. Ticket To Paradise          $8,510,000 $46,734,120 2 4                          066
4. Smile                               $3,999,925 $99,107,000 4 3                             046
5. Prey For The Devil          $3,875,000 $13,643,710 3 2                          980
6. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile           $3,360,000 $36,566,868 7 3                             005
7. The Banshees Of Inisherin  $2,001,000 $3,034                                    102 11 895
8. Till                                    $1,875,580 $6,583,014 6 2                              136
9. Halloween Ends               $1,400,000 $63,445,190 5 2                         929
10. Terrifier 2                        $1,220,075 $9,858,425 8 1                               245

As I have emphasized in the last few weeks, analysis of Black Adam’s journey at the box office has to be done keeping in mind the project’s budget. According to Variety, it took a reported production budget of $195 million to bring the DC Comics property to life, and that notably doesn’t include costs for marketing, publicity, and development. The blockbuster has had a mountain to climb in the accounting department since it was first released in mid-October… and only now are the numbers are starting to look a bit rosier.

It can’t be said that Black Adam is doing particularly well domestically. It’s now ranked in the Top 10 releases of 2022, but achieving that ranking meant pushing past Jordan Peele’s Nope, which is a film that was made with a budget about a third the size of the Dwayne Johnson tentpole release. To date, per The Numbers, the movie has made $137.4 million in the United States and Canada, which means that it is at minimum $200 million away from accompanying this year’s other major superhero movies on the chart (Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love And Thunder made $343.3 million; Matt Reeves’ The Batman made $369.3 million; and Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness made $411.3 million).
Black Adam is still far away from those titles in the worldwide box office rankings as well, but at the very least the numbers look better when put in context with the budget. Thanks to the global earnings from ticket sales this past weekend, the movie has now made $319.7 million to date.

Black Adam’s ticket sales are surely going to plummet next weekend, as almost the entirety of its target audience is going to be purchasing tickets to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and it probably means that the movie is going to go down in the books as a financial disappointment for Warner Bros. There is, however, a silver lining to be observed, which is that it may still have set the table for a more positive future.

Canada kick out Chinese companies from lithium mining

Canada kick out Chinese companies from lithium mining

Diplomat Times (Ontario) — Three Chinese companies have been ordered to sell lithium mining assets in Canada after the country’s government imposed limits on foreign involvement in supplying “critical minerals” used in batteries and high-tech products.

The order Wednesday comes as tensions between the West and China mount over control of sources of lithium, rare earths, cadmium and other minerals used in mobile phones, wind turbines, solar cells, electric cars and other emerging technologies.

Chinese miners are investing in production in Africa, Latin America, Canada and elsewhere as the ruling Communist Party encourages development of electric car, clean energy and other tech industries.

Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne last week announced curbs on involvement of foreign state-owned companies in producing “critical minerals.” He said investment of any size would be approved only on an “exceptional basis.”

The Chinese government criticized the order as a violation of market principles and called on Canada to reverse its decision.

“Canada stretched the concept of national security and placed barriers to normal investment and trade cooperation between Chinese and Canadian companies,” said a foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian. “We urge Canada to stop the undue suppression of Chinese companies and instead provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for their operation.”

Western governments want industrial supply chains controlled by allies following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which disrupted global oil and gas markets, and tension with China, which produces most of the world’s rare earths.

Sinomine (Hong Kong) Rare Metals Resources was ordered to sell its stake in Power Metals Corp., based in Vancouver, which has exploration projects for lithium, cesium and tantalum in northern Ontario.

Chengze Lithium International Ltd. is required to divest its interests in Lithium Chile Inc., a company in Calgary with lithium projects underway in Chile. Zangge Mining Investment was ordered to sell its stake in Ultra Lithium Inc. of Vancouver, which has lithium and gold projects in Canada and Argentina.

Canada welcomes foreign investment but “will act decisively when investments threaten our national security and our critical minerals supply chains,” Champagne said in a statement.

The company announcement Sunday gave no details but said the factory operated by Foxconn in the central city of Zhengzhou is “operating at significantly reduced capacity.”

“We now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated,” the company said. “Customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products.”

Foxconn Technology Group said earlier it imposed anti-virus measures on the factory in Zhengzhou following virus outbreaks. Apple and Foxconn previously hadn’t responded to questions about how iPhone production might be affected.

Last week, access to the industrial zone where the factory is located was suspended for one week following a surge in infections in Zhengzhou and the departure of workers from the factory.

“We are working closely with our supplier to return to normal production levels while ensuring the health and safety of every worker,” Apple said.

Crysencio Summerville completes comeback for hosts in seven-goal thriller at Elland Road
Crysencio Summerville was the match-winner again for Leeds as they came from 3-1 down to beat Bournemouth 4-3 in a blockbuster Premier League match at Elland Road.

Diplomat Times (Sports) – After his late winner against Liverpool at Anfield last week, Summerville raced beyond the Bournemouth defense after being slipped through by substitute Wilfried Gnonto and calmly slotted the ball beyond Mark Travers (84) to seal a memorable victory for Jesse Marsch’s side.

After his late winner against Liverpool at Anfield last week, Summerville raced beyond the Bournemouth defence after being slipped through by substitute Wilfried Gnonto and calmly slotted the ball beyond Mark Travers (84) to seal a memorable victory for Jesse Marsch’s side.

In a thrilling encounter in West Yorkshire, Rodrigo’s early penalty (3) was cancelled out by a Marcus Tavernier strike (7), before Philip Billing gave Bournemouth a 2-1 lead (19) at half-time.

Dominic Solanke then scored his 50th league goal three minutes after the break (48) to put the visitors 3-1 up, but Leeds hit back in remarkable fashion to secure back-to-back Premier League wins. They rise to 12th. Bournemouth drop to 16th.

Leeds: Meslier (6), Kristensen (6), Koch (6), Cooper (7), Struijk (7),
 Adams (6), Roca (6), Harrison (6), Aaronson (6), Summerville (7), Rodrigo (7).

Subs: Stacey (6), Rothwell (n/a), Stanislas (n/a).

Player of the match: Sam Greenwood.

How Leeds produced stunning comeback

Leeds made a flying start and took the lead through Rodrigo’s third-minute penalty. Marcos Senesi sent Summerville tumbling in the penalty area inside the opening 60 seconds and Rodrigo converted his seventh league goal of the season from the spot.

Bournemouth equalised four minutes later in their first attack. Robin Koch could only head Billing’s cross onto the back post and the unmarked Tavernier side-footed a volley into the bottom corner.

Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier turned Jefferson Lerma’s header over the crossbar as Bournemouth swarmed into the ascendancy and they silenced Elland Road with a second goal in the 18th minute. Meslier blocked Tavernier’s effort, but the ball rebounded to the Bournemouth winger and he played it back to Billing, who smashed the visitors into a 2-1 lead from just inside the area.

Kieffer Moore spurned a gilt-edged chance to extend the Cherries’ lead when he shot tamely at Meslier from in front of goal, with Leeds all at sea again at the back after another swift counter-attack.

Bournemouth caught Leeds out in transition once more three minutes into the second half and doubled their lead. Tavernier was afforded too much space on the left and his low cross was turned home by Solanke to put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Substitute Sam Greenwood pulled a goal back for Leeds to make it 3-2 . Photo Credit : Skysports

Marsch sent on Greenwood for Marc Roca soon after and that paid dividends as the substitute curled home an excellent finish from 20 yards after Pascal Struijk’s shot had been blocked.

Rodrigo blazed a chance high and wide as Leeds swept forward in search of an equaliser before skipper Cooper raised the roof by heading home Greenwood’s 68th-minute corner.

Jack Stacey was a whisker away from firing Bournemouth back in front just moments after replacing Ryan Fredericks as a typically topsy-turvy game at Elland Road hung in the balance.

Russian club : 13 dead and 9 injures after drunk soldier shoots flare gun inside Russian club: investigation underway

Diplomat Times (Moscow) – At least 13 people died and nine were injured in a Russian nightclub in Kostroma on Friday night after a drunken soldier, most likely a reservist, fired a flare gun inside the club, burning it down and causing the roof of the building to completely collapse.

In video footage posted on social media, people can be heard shouting while what appears to be a large cloud of thick smoke expands outwards from a fire on the ceiling.

Authorities detained a suspect and charged him with “causing death by negligence of two or more persons” and “improper provision of services” in accordance with Russian law, according to an official statement.

The suspect, who fired the flare gun after a mass brawl broke out involving himself and an unknown number of other partygoers in the “Polygon” nightclub, confessed to law enforcement on Saturday, according to Tass.

According to local reports, after a conflict broke out between some of the partygoers it quickly escalated to a mass brawl, during which a yet-unidentified man reached for a hunting flare signal gun and fired it several times inside the premises.

  • “The man who fired a flare gun at the Polygon club, which caused a fire, confessed to the crime. He explained that a conflict which broke out in the club was the cause for his actions,” a local law enforcement spokesperson said.

Kostroma and the Polygon club
Military personnel often came to the Polygon club as it was located next to the Russian Military Academy of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection, as well as a stationed military unit.

Kostroma, a city of about 260,000 inhabitants, lies about 300 kilometers northeast of Moscow, and the fire in the club broke out at around 2 a.m. local time.

It was extinguished only about five and a half hours later, causing the roof to collapse and the place to be almost completely destroyed. About 250 people were evacuated from the building after the fire broke out.

the “Polygon” club is owned by the deputy of the regional duma, Ikhtiyar Mirzoev, according to E1.RU.

Benjamin Netanyahu wins majority in Israel election, will serve as Israel’s 9th Prime Minister

0

Benjamin Netanyahu, win majority and become Israel’s 9th prime minister.

PM serves in office from 2009 and is currently serving his 4th term in the position which he also held from 1996-1999. Netanyahu previously served as Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Minister of Finance, Foreign Minister, Leader of the Opposition and is current the Chairman of the ruling Likud party.

Diplomat Times (Jerusalem) – Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has secured a majority of parliamentary seats in the country’s fifth election in four years.

Netanyahu and his right-wing allies won a total of 64 seats of parliament’s 120 seats. His own Likud party won 32 seats, while ultra-Orthodox parties secured 18 seats, and a far-right alliance won 14 seats, the Israeli electoral commission said on Thursday.

It means that the country’s longest-serving prime minister will reenter office at the head of what many expect will be the most right-wing government in Israel’s 74-year-history.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid, possibly Netanyahu’s staunchest rival in the election, congratulated him Thursday and instructed his staff to prepare an organized transition of power.

“The state of Israel comes before any political consideration,” the AP news agency quoted the centrist Lapid as saying. “I wish Netanyahu success for the sake of the people of Israel and the state of Israel.”

Lapid’s opposition bloc secured 51 seats, the electoral commission said.

Netanyahu’s outright majority is projected to end a turbulent era in Israeli politics. However, the 73-year-old Netanyahu still faces charges of corruption, which he has consistently denied.

What will the future government look like?

After receiving the electoral commission’s final vote count, President Isaac Herzog will next week give Netanyahu 42 days to form a government.

Likud’s most likely senior partner is expected to be the Religious Zionism party. The far-right party, which doubled its seats in parliament since the last election, is set on controlling Israel’s security portfolio.

The party’s anti-Arab leader Itamar Ben-Gvir is eying the post of Public Security Minister, which would allow him control over Israeli police.

“The time has come to impose order here. The time has come for there to be a landlord,” Ben-Gvir tweeted Thursday in a commentary on the latest reported stabbing attack targeting an Israeli.

Bezalel Smotrich, another party leader and West Bank settler, hopes to become defense minister.

International reactions

Israeli allies have commented on the likely makeup of the future Israeli government.

The US State Department said it hoped Israeli officials would respect “the values of an open, democratic society.” Britain, meanwhile, called on all politicians to “refrain from inflammatory language” and respect minorities.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Congratulate and tweet ” Mazel Tov my friend @netanyahu for your electoral success.  I look forward to continuing our joint efforts to deepen the India-Israel strategic partnership.

New Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Hungary’s Viktor Orban, a longstanding Netanyahu ally, were quick to congratulate the new Israeli prime minister.

Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was “important to see real democracy in action” and that Ukraine and Israel “share common values and challenges that now require effective cooperation.” Ukraine has been hoping to secure more explicit support such as weapons deliveries from Israel, which has fostered comparatively friendly ties with Russia since the Cold War.
